POST-CAP
(PI: SONYA BORRERO)
USING INTERVIEWS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW WOMEN FEEL ABOUT PREGNANCY, AFTER THEY FIND OUT THEY ARE PREGNANT
The purpose of this research study (PI: Sonya Borrero) is to better understand women’s thoughts and feelings about pregnancy and parenthood, with the goal of ultimately producing a measure of pregnancy acceptability that will help to indicate which patients might need additional services and supports from their healthcare providers during pregnancy. The first aim of this project is to use in-depth qualitative interviews to better understand women’s thoughts and feelings about pregnancy, particularly in the month just after they find out that they are pregnant, and how they make decisions about their pregnancy, as well as to determine how stable their understanding of their feelings about their pregnancy are over time. This qualitative data will be used to inform the development of a tool to assess women’s feelings about their pregnancy when they come to their providers’ offices, so that women can receive the resources they need to make decisions about their pregnancy.
Including Perspectives from Pennsylvania, Texas, and California
In order to achieve the study goals, we intend to interview 60 women recruited from three states: Pennsylvania, Texas, and California. The states were chosen to represent diverse perspectives and experiences within the United States, and involves collaboration with researchers in each state. The sensitive nature of the research topic requires careful consideration in interviewing; the lead interviewer for the study will be Flor Cameron, who has been working with the Qualitative Core since 2016 and has considerable expertise related to reproductive health.
This study is currently recruiting, and data collection is ongoing. Recruitment information can be found at the following site:

The CBQM Qualitative Core will Collect and Analyze Qualitative Interview Data
The CBQM Qualitative Core will aid the project investigators in collecting and analyzing the open-ended interview data that is being collected in order to inform the Post-CAP assessment tool.
